Offering to the cookie gods

Something strange has been happening in Chez Yumbolicious these past few weeks. Something very strange indeed.

I got a new cookbook last month; it was second hand and I think it might have some mad weird powers.

Basically, it follows me around the house. I keep finding it in the strangest of places: on the dining table, beside the couch, sitting on the landing, next  to the computer……… And it’s always open on the same page: chocolate chip cookies.

It’s so bizarre; I just can’t figure it out. It’s almost like the book is willing me to bake them. It must be the book, who else could it be? The Fella says I’m going mad, he said I should make them to appease the cookie gods, or heaven knows what the book would be up to next.

Heaven knows indeed.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

from Nigella Lawson’s Kitchen Recipes from the Heart of the Home

Ingredients

Makes approx 14

150 g (5 ¼ oz) butter
150 g (5 ¼ oz) soft brown sugar
100 g (3 ½ oz) caster sugar
2 tps vanilla extract
1 free range egg, cold from the fridge
1 free range egg yoke, cold from the fridge
300 g (10 ½ oz) flour, sifted
½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
330 g (11 ½ oz) chocolate chips or chocolate pieces.

Preheat the oven to 170 °C and line a baking tray with baking parchment. Melt the butter, and then let it cool a bit. Next, add the two types of sugars and beat together, then add in the vanilla and the eggs and beat until pale and fluffly. Why the eggs have to be cold beats me, but if anyone can fill me in, I’d be grateful! Gently fold in the flour and bicarb soda until just mixed through, then fold in the chocolate chips.

Measure out approximately an ice-cream scoop size of the cookie dough and flatten onto the baking parchment. Space each cookie about 8 cm apart. Bake for approximately 15-17 minutes. You may need to bake them in two or three batches, just keep the batter in the fridge.

Eat with buckets of tea and if you don’t finish them all in one go, store in an airtight container.

These cookies disappeared amazingly fast. The Fella, says there’s something weird going on with them, but I’m starting to have other suspicions…..

Yumbolicious.
